musicbrainz integration
there's an API and libraries for pulling data from musicbrainz, and a separate library for writing to musicbrainz.
I looked into MusicBrainz a bit more. They actually don’t have much concert data yet. Currently they have about 39,000 events, whereas Concert Archives has about 470,000. Even though many of their concerts aren’t on Concert Archives yet (mostly classic rock), that amount of data doesn’t yet warrant the effort it would require to integrate it.
I’ll keep an eye on the project and it’s definitely a good option in terms of artist data should I go down the road.
Thanks for letting me know about it!

Even if you don't pull events from Musicbrainz, it might make sense to pull _artists_ from musicbrainz, or cross-link them. I'd wager they have more artists than you do.

Thanks for the info & explanation! I took a closer look and see what you are talking about. Really neat that they are putting all this data out with such a liberal license. I added this to my roadmap to take a deeper look and see what might be possible. Expanding the concert history based on their Events data could be great. And I've been thinking about aliases/disambiguation lately too.

Ahh... okay.
So, Musicbrainz started as audio/mp3 tagging stuff, but it evolved into a full-scale online music database (that includes tagging stuff). It's similar to Discogs (if you're familiar with that)Around 3 years ago, Musicbrainz added event listings to their database.
They have (I strongly suspect) a lot of concerts that ConcertArchives doesn't have, as well as artist profiles and other information that you could make use of.
Since their data is Creative-Commons licensed, and API-enabled, it should be easy and legal to mooch whatever data from them that would improve ConcertArchives.
You might also consider using MusicBrainz-IDs as alternative (or primary) IDs for entries in the ConcertArchives database.
Their disambiguation info is pretty good as well. -
All I really know about Musicbrainz is the audio/mp3 tagging stuff (Picard).

Are you familiar with musicbrainz? Should I start with the general description of it?

What information would you want to see on Concert Archives from the Musicbrainz database?
